Hello! Long time no journal
Firstly, thanks to all you who support me
THE MONKEES
My very first LP was one by The Monkees, one of those 'best of' ones...i still have it. I used to love watching them on TV during the school holidays. It used to be on with Why Don't You and Huckleberry Finn! My favourites were Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz.
Anyway, last year my friend on Twitter (you know who you are) sent me a load of Monkees DVD's for my, then 5 year old, daughter to watch. She fell in love! Particularly with Micky. Since then she's collected quite a lot of records, cd's, books etc. I took her to meet Mr Dolenz when he visited our home town. Then they got back together for their 45th Anniversary. Obviously we had to go, so on Wednesday we did!
Hey, hey, we are The Monkees
You know we love to please

With no philosophies.
You say we're manufactured.
To that we all agree.
So make your choice and we'll rejoice

If you know anything about The Monkees you'll know there have been tensions for years between the members. I think they've always tried to be professional but i wondered whether it would show. It didn't! They geniunely appeared to enjoy themselves on stage and really delivered a fabulous show.
My daughter was so excited when we entered the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham. We went with her Aunt and Uncle. This was her first time seeing a band. The show started with a film showing how the Monkees started from the original casting advert. Didn't see most of it as some arseholes decided to arrive late and caused a fuss in front of us
The band (there were a lot of band members) started up and Micky, Peter and Davy appeared...YAY!! I think they started with I'm A Believer. They performed an amazing amount of songs...about 2 hours 15 minutes worth in fact! Each performed alone and played various instruments throughout the show. I liked that each member got chances to shine. They didn't treat the other band members as backing artists either, all were introduced and some were pushed to the front when playing a solo.

It was different to the kind of shows i normally go to and was perfect for my 6 year old. I think we were the youngest there, most looked as if they were there back in the day!!
I was dead impressed that they played a few tunes from the film Head. I love that trippy stuff. Porpoise Song is my fave and they played it
Another fave is She which was played and my daughter's fave (I'm not your) Steppin Stone was also played. Some less well known tunes like the fab Auntie Grizelda were included too. Peter Tork, who wasn't known for singing with The Monkees, did a fabulous job singing the Mike Nesmith tunes as well as others.
We sang along loudly to all the hits, Last Train To Clarksville, Pleasant Valley Sunday, Daydream Believer...you know the ones! I got strangely emotional when they sang Shades Of Gray, possibly because i loved it as a kid. It was a great night. Wonderful to see a band with such history. Who'd have thought that actors/musicians put together to play a band called The Monkees on TV, would actually turn into a band and be performing 45 years later to people who weren't born 45 years ago!
They went off stage to Theme from The Monkees doing that Monkees walk
